Rotten Timber Repair in Cornwall

Assessment and repair of localised rot in exterior and interior timber, from door frames and window surrounds to skirting, architraves and weathered trim.

Paint failure, open joints and persistent moisture can allow decay to travel further than the surface suggests. The repair has to start with the moisture source and sound timber, not filler over softness.

A repair built around the actual condition

What Rotten Timber Repair in Cornwall can involve

The affected area is checked for the likely moisture route and the extent of softness. Localised decay may be cut back and replaced with sound timber; widespread damage, failed structure or inaccessible causes may require a wider replacement or specialist assessment.

Finding the extent

Loose coatings and visibly damaged material may need to be opened carefully before the full boundary of sound timber can be confirmed.

Localised replacement

Where the surrounding member remains serviceable, deteriorated sections can be removed and replacement timber shaped to suit the existing detail.

Preparing the repair

Exposed end grain, joints and replacement sections are prepared and primed for the agreed finishing system rather than left vulnerable to fresh moisture.

When replacement is broader

A full lining, sill or component replacement may be more sensible when decay is extensive, repeatedly wet or important to safe support.

Local FAQs

Questions before booking

Can rotten timber be repaired without replacing the whole frame?

Often, if decay is localised and enough sound timber remains. The affected section can be cut back and a matching repair piece fitted.

What happens if more rot is found after opening the timber?

The newly visible condition is photographed and the scope is reviewed before work continues beyond what was agreed.

Can you repair timber damaged by a previous leak?

Yes, once the leak is resolved and the area is dry enough to assess and finish correctly.

Can you make good and repaint afterwards?

Preparation, priming and painting can be included in the written scope where the surrounding finish and drying conditions allow.

Liam did a brilliant job on my dad’s kitchen, when he was let down by the previous kitchen fitter. Liam not only managed to fit my dad in quickly, he was professional, did a fantastic job, was reasonably priced and got the job done quickly even though it was a big job. Highly recommend.
